Day 30 – Tokyo Toronto (Home
again … yippee)
May 3, 2005.
All good things have to come to an end and today is the end of my 30 day voyage
around the
world. What a wonderful time Nancy and I have had.
Just after midnight I left
Singapore for Tokyo. There is no doubt in my mind that Singapore Airlines is the
finest airline in the world. On last night’s flight I was the only passenger up
front in first class. The service was unbelievable with the flight supervisor,
cabin manager and a flight attendant on hand to look after all my needs. My
every wish was executed instantly. They even ran to open the washroom door for
me before I could get there to do it for myself. I could get used to being
spoiled that way.
After a five hour sleep I
arrived at Tokyo’s Narita airport just after seven and headed for the lounge as
I had three hours to kill before my next flight. Again they provided free high
speed wireless, so I spent most of the time on ICQ with Nancy. Great way to get
caught up and spend time with my partner.
From Tokyo to New York, I
flew ANA. This is the second largest airline in Japan but it’s not well known
outside of Asia. The flight is a long one with flying time closing in on 13
hours. However, it’s worth it as I don’t have to change aircraft in Los Angeles,
San Francisco or Vancouver, so I get home a little faster. Did have to transfer
from JFK to La Guardia airport in NYC but that’s not a big deal.
I took the 13:30 Air Canada
flight out of La Guardia and was home by 13:30. Problem free ending to a great
trip.
Although this is my last day
by day column there will be a finale. Over the next several days I plan to write
a summary column that will have tips on planning, costs and suggestions that
will make life easier for you, if you to decide to fly around the world.
I have enjoyed sharing with
you our April voyage of discovery. Thank you to the many of you who have written
me about the columns.
Now stayed tuned for April
2006 when Nancy and me will be traveling to Prague, Rome, Venice, Florence,
Tuscany and Taiwan.
