VOCATIONAL STUDY TEAM
A PROJECT OF ROTARY eCLUB ONE OF DISTRICT 5450

Announcing

In May 2006, Rotary eClub One sponsored its second Vocational Study Team program for non-Rotarian middle management professionals. The program focused the team of six dedicated participants from four countries, all of whom share the same vocation of working to treat and help individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  The program focused discussion on community service options for people with MS.

The participants for the MS project, career enhancing opportunity came from the United States, Australia, Denmark, and New Zealand. The candidates were nominated for this program by Rotarians and granted paid time away from work by their employers to participate in the intense study team framework held in Denver Colorado at the offices of the US National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  The National MS Society provided a content mentor who organized the professional activities and facilitated the meetings and discussion.

The 2007 Rotary VST Leadership Team presents in March 2007 to the North Balwyn Rotary Club, Melbourne, Australia, March 22nd; From left, Robin Ould, Chief Executive Officer, The Asthma Foundation of Victoria;  Chris Joscelyne, PP Rotary eClubOne; Ian Adams, President-Elect, North Balwyn Rotary Club; and Angus M Robinson, the 2007/2008 Vocational Services Director, Rotary eClub One.

The study team traveled to Denver Colorado from April 23rd through May 5th, 2006.  The Vocational Study Team activity coincided with Rotary eClub One's annual dinner and award ceremony held on April 26th and the Rotary District 5450s annual conference.  Rotary eClub One works with other local Rotary Club's to support this program in the geographic area that it is being held.

This year's program will be held in Melbourne, Australia and will focus on Asthma. Rotary eClub One will work with the North Balwyn Rotary Club Melbourne, to help support the efforts of this program and the candidates who devote two weeks of their professional and personal time to the program, to be held in February 2009."

Chris Joscelyne, Past-President of Rotary eClub One, says that the VST program is ideally suited to his Internet-based Rotary Club. “Our global reach means that we are uniquely positioned to offer this VST opportunity to any qualified person anywhere.” he said.

A former Vocational Service Committee Chair and Past President, Tim Mowbray, is delighted that the club has been successful with two international vocational service projects that have helped contribute knowledge, positive professional relations, and discussion of best practices in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. He believes the Vocational Study Team concept will expand and be used in the future at both the micro and macro level of problem solving as more Rotary clubs look at the concept.

Rotary Clubs interested in nominating a team participant for next year’s program on Asthma to be held in Australia are invited to contact Rotary eClub One.
