| Description: | Clubhouse donation summary Integrated Development Demonstration — Uganda Proposed Rotary Global Grant GG2695641 The Integrated Development Demonstration will help approximately 20,000 people in 16 underserved villages in Yumbe District, Uganda, achieve lasting improvements in health, education, income, and community resilience. Building on seven years of field experience and the successful Rotary Global Grant GG2237714, the project will integrate: • 36 community wells with locally manufactured India Mark II handpumps • Complete household sanitation, hygiene education, and safe-water practices • Community malaria prevention, testing, and treatment • Village Savings and Loan Associations supporting women and small enterprises • Literacy and practical community education • Training for water committees, health teams, local leaders, and community volunteers The project addresses the connected causes of poverty. Safe water, sanitation, and malaria prevention reduce illness, medical expenses, and time spent collecting water or caring for sick family members. Families can then devote more time and resources to school, farming, savings, and small businesses. Expected measurable results include: • More than 75% reductions in diarrhea and malaria • 50% lower household medical expenses • 20% higher household income • 20% less reported hunger • Improved school attendance and women’s economic participation Sustainability is built into every activity. Community-elected Water User Committees—at least half women—will collect affordable maintenance fees, maintain public financial records, and arrange repairs using locally available parts and mechanics. Village Health Teams will continue health education, while community-managed savings and loan funds will revolve and grow for the long-term benefit of participating villages. At approximately $12 per beneficiary, this project offers donors an unusually cost-effective opportunity to produce multiple, mutually reinforcing benefits. Contributions from Rotary clubs, districts, Rotarians, and other supporters are invited. Eligible Rotary contributions may also leverage District Designated Funds and Rotary Foundation World Fund support. | History of Involvement: | Rotary got Yumbe to create a club, mostly of village women. Our member, Chris Roesel, has worked with an NGO in Yumbe, the Rotary Club of Yumbe, the local government, and communities there for over 6 years.
