Helps Children in Mexico

Children Without , a Miamisburg, Ohio non-profit, is pleased to announce that they have awarded more than 300 scholarships to underprivileged students in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In 2005, Rotary District 6670, located in the Southwest corner of Ohio, adopted a project to fund and deliver 100 scholarships to underprivileged children in Puerto Vallarta as part of the Rotary Centennial anniversary. Following the completion of their Rotary Centennial project, a group of Ohio Rotarians knew their work was not finished in Puerto Vallarta, so they founded Children Without to ensure the important work would continue. Children Without now works with Rotarians as well as private and corporate donors to help the children of Puerto Vallarta advance their quality of life.

In Mexico, children are only guaranteed schooling through age 12. The Children Without scholarships (becas in Spanish) provide the funds to keep children in school by purchasing textbooks, meals, uniforms, shoes, and tuition. With the help of Children Without, students in Puerto Vallarta are able to receive a full year of educational support from a $250 donation. Children in Puerto Vallarta participating in the Children Without Program have been able to achieve an average GPA of 9.1 on a 10.0 scale and many have already been pursuing higher education at the university level.

"The Rotary has been such a significant part of my life, so seeing the work it started in Mexico be continued for almost a decade is truly inspiring," stated Miamisburg Rotarian and Children Without Co-founder Dave Hafenbrack. "Every child should have the essentials of life, which include an education with the help of the Rotary and Children Without, these children can have that opportunity."
