President's Message DECEMBER 2013

Dear eClub Rotarians,

Rotary years must be as fast as light years.  We are half way through this Rotary year.   This year, we have accomplished so much through you, our members.

Here is a small sample of what you have done.

1.     Supported a great leadership team. Please say Thank you to Tracy Adams for her insight as our President elect and the great job she has done mentoring Megan McClain who will become the membership chair in January. Tom Green our immediate past president who gives great guidance as we move the club forward.  Joe Spears has been a Treasurer extraordinaire reporting on our financial success and keeping us humming.  And, of course, our secretary Emmanuel Serriere who keeps us connected.  Emmanuel has tirelessly worked with our web designer to make sure our eClub is a place for members to stay connected. 

2.     Improved attendance at our weekly forums.  When we started this year we had about 35% of you participating in the forums.  We are now at 71%.

3.     Welcomed 8 new members from all over the world.

4.     Donated extra dollars to help relief efforts for the Boulder Floods and now to help those who have suffered so much in the Philippines. 

5.     Worked with Henry Harrison, our amazing host of our forums.  We have had many members pose questions or ask us to think about all that Rotary does and the responses keep me thinking for days after the forum

This past Sunday I read an article in our Denver newspaper.  It was about the issue of trust.   According to this article, trust in each other is on the decline.  Right now about 64 % of the American population believes that you can’t be too careful in dealing with people compared with 32% of us who say “most people can be trusted”.  I am part of that 32% of those who generally trust others.  I suspect many of my fellow eClub members fall in this category.    Because of Rotary, I have seen what individuals who are part of a great whole organization can do to better for each other and our world.  

 

Thank you for your good works, your good ideas and your good role modeling to others.  No matter how you celebrate this time of year may you be surrounded by those you love and those who love you.
